The Guanajuato Attorney General’s Office reported that a group of armed attackers arrived unexpectedly, and targeted the posada’s participants, most of whom were young. According to initial reports from the municipal government, the attack killed 12 people and injured 10 others, and an official investigation is currently underway.
The injured were immediately taken to local hospitals in the municipality, although officials have not yet disclosed specifics about their conditions.
The violent incident is another serious chapter in the growing violence in the region, driven largely by ongoing disputes between criminal groups competing for control. This tragic incident is a sobering reminder of the challenges posed by organized crime in some areas, impacting the lives of innocent individuals during a festive and joyous occasion.
