A man impersonating a British cardiologist has been arrested in India after performing 15 heart surgeries at a private hospital in Damoh, Madhya Pradesh, resulting in at least seven patient deaths. The suspect, Narendra Vikramaditya Yadav, falsely claimed to be a renowned UK-based heart surgeon, even bleaching his hair blond to appear more convincing. He presented forged credentials, including a purported fellowship from St George’s Hospital in London. Authorities discovered the deception after families of deceased patients raised concerns, prompting an investigation. Yadav is now facing charges of fraud, forgery, and criminal conspiracy.
The National Human Rights Commission is also probing the case, focusing on potential misuse of public health funds, as the hospital was part of a government-funded health insurance scheme. Officials are examining the roles of hospital administrators and other personnel involved.
This incident has raised serious concerns about the verification processes for medical professionals in India, highlighting the need for stricter credential checks to prevent such tragedies.
