On January 20, 2025, President Donald Trump signed Executive Order 14172, titled “Restoring Names That Honor American Greatness,” which included directives to rename the Gulf of Mexico to the “Gulf of America” and to revert Denali, North America’s highest peak, back to its former name, Mount McKinley.
Following this executive order, on February 9, 2025, President Trump proclaimed the day as “Gulf of America Day” to commemorate the renaming.
