UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelati discussed the latest developments in the Gaza Strip and Israel’s increasing aggression in the West Bank.
Issuing a statement, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said that during the phone conversation, both sides have emphasized the importance of reaching a ceasefire quickly and delivering humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip. Apart from this, both sides emphasized the importance of facilitating the work done by the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian refugees.
According to the report of news agency Xinhua, the Egyptian Foreign Minister stressed the need to stop the ongoing aggression in Gaza and to deliver humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip quickly and said that peace and stability can be established in the region by establishing a Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders and East Jerusalem should be made its capital.
United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has praised the mediation role played by Egypt, Qatar and the United States in reaching a ceasefire agreement and exchanging prisoners and hostages. He has expressed hope that this agreement will be reached soon.
On October 7, 2023, Hamas carried out a major attack by entering the southern Israeli border, in which about 1,200 Israeli civilians were killed, while more than 250 people were taken hostage. Israel launched a military operation in the Gaza Strip to avenge the Hamas attack.
Gaza-based health officials informed that so far 41,118 Palestinian civilians have been killed in Israeli attacks.
