New Delhi, 28 December (UITV)- US President Joe Biden and his wife Jill Biden have expressed deep condolences on the demise of former Prime Minister of India Dr. Manmohan Singh. President Biden and Jill Biden said in a statement issued by the White House, “We also join the people of India in their grief over the demise of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.” His statement was a way of expressing condolences to the Indian people and family, who are with him in this difficult time.
Recalling the contribution of Manmohan Singh, President Biden said that the unprecedented level of cooperation that exists between India and America today would not have been possible without the strategic vision and political courage of the former Prime Minister. He also said that Manmohan Singh laid the foundation for a strong and lasting relationship, from establishing the US-India civil nuclear agreement to launching the first Quad group to strengthen partnership in the Indo-Pacific region. Biden made it clear that his vision and leadership were important in giving a new direction to the relations between the two countries and its impact will last for generations to come.
Manmohan Singh was recognized as a true statesman, dedicated public servant and, above all, a kind and humble person. Biden also said that he had the opportunity to meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in 2008 as Chairman of the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee and again in 2009 as Vice President. He also mentioned that when he visited India in 2013, Prime Minister Singh hosted him. Biden said, “We discussed at that time that the US-India relationship is one of the most important relationships in the world and that working together with both our countries can open up countless opportunities for our nations and our people.” Biden also said that in this difficult time, we re-embrace the vision to which Prime Minister Manmohan Singh dedicated his life. During this, Biden and Jill Biden expressed their deepest condolences to Manmohan Singh’s wife Gursharan Kaur and their three daughters. Also, they paid their tribute to all the citizens of India in this hour of grief. Dr. Manmohan Singh died on Thursday and he was 92 years old. His health suddenly deteriorated on Thursday evening, after which he was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi, where he breathed his last at around 10 pm. Manmohan Singh served as the Prime Minister of India for two consecutive terms from 22 May 2004 to 26 May 2014.
