New Delhi, December 27 (UITV)- US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Brazilian President Lula da Silva have paid tribute to the demise of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and remembered his role and contribution. Condolences are being expressed from all over the world on the demise of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh. Blinken recalled his economic reforms, while Brazilian President da Silva recalled his role in the creation of IBSA.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken issued a statement saying that the United States expresses its condolences on the demise of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh. Dr. Singh was one of the biggest supporters of the US-India strategic partnership and his work laid the foundation for most of the achievements made by our countries together over the past two decades.
Blinken also recalled the promotion of the US-India civil nuclear cooperation agreement under the leadership of Dr. Manmohan Singh, which he considered an important step for US-India relations. Through this agreement, the relationship between India and America got a new direction and a new identity, which shows the growing partnership between the two countries.
Apart from this, he also mentioned Dr. Singh’s economic reforms, which were seen as encouraging the rapid growth of the Indian economy. Blinken said that Dr. Singh will be remembered for his economic reforms in the country. India’s rapid economic growth was promoted by Dr. Singh’s economic reforms. We mourn the demise of Dr. Singh and we will always remember the dedication he has shown to bring America and India together.
Brazilian President Lula da Silva also expressed deep condolences on the demise of Dr. Manmohan Singh. He recalled Dr. Singh’s role in the creation of IBSA (India, Brazil, South Africa).
Lula da Silva said, “My condolences on the demise of my friend, former Prime Minister of India Manmohan Singh. In the first decade of the 21st century, we worked together to enhance relations between our countries and build a just world. Dr. Manmohan Singh participated in the creation of IBSA – bringing together Brazil, South Africa and India and the establishment of BRICS.
He further said that when he was not the President in the year 2012, he had the opportunity to meet Dr. Manmohan Singh in New Delhi and during that time they had many important discussions about development, tackling poverty, hunger and cooperation in the Global South. Lula said that he expresses his sympathy to the people of India, his family, friends and colleagues of Manmohan Singh.
Dr. Manmohan Singh was born on 26 September 1932 in Gah village of Pakistan, which is now a part of Pakistan. His father’s name was Gurmukh Singh and mother’s name was Amrit Kaur. His education life was also very inspiring. He received his early education from Punjab University and later obtained an honors degree in Economics from Cambridge University, UK. After this, he did his D.Phil in Economics from Oxford University.
Manmohan Singh married Gursharan Kaur in 1958 and has three daughters Upinder Singh, Daman Singh and Amrit Singh.
Dr. Manmohan Singh had a very impressive and dedicated career. In 1971, he started working as an economic advisor in the Indian Ministry of Commerce. After this, in 1972, he was appointed as the Chief Economic Advisor in the Ministry of Finance. He also played important roles as the Chairman of the Reserve Bank of India, Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission and Advisor to the Prime Minister.
In 1991, Dr. Singh took charge as the Finance Minister of India. At this time economic reforms started in India, which brought historic changes for the country. Dr. Singh took many important steps to connect the Indian economy with the global economy. He worked towards privatization, liberalization and globalization, which led to the rapid development of the Indian economy. His contribution was invaluable for the Indian economy and his policies are still considered important.
Dr. Manmohan Singh took oath as the 14th Prime Minister of India in 2004. Under his leadership, the UPA government gave new dimensions to the country’s politics and economic stream. He again took oath as Prime Minister in 2009 and in his second term also he took many important steps, such as National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGA) and reforms in the health sector.
After he became Prime Minister, India faced many global crises, including the financial crisis of 2008 and he strengthened India with his leadership. His policies not only strengthened the Indian economy but also strengthened India’s global role.
The demise of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh is a big loss for Indian politics and global politics. His contribution was appreciated not only in India but all over the world. His economic reforms, leadership and his contribution on international forums will always be remembered. The leaders of America and Brazil have expressed their condolences on his demise, which is a proof of his global influence and contribution.
